Big Bear Fall Activities

Seasons are changing and fall is upon us. It’s time to say goodbye to the hot, lazy days of summer, and prep for cold, long, frosty winter nights. The tourists have thinned out too, and you can take a quiet hike on your favorite trail, enjoying the riotous colors of fall. Fall means the start of the holiday season too, and holiday festivals and events are underway. Check out some of our favorite Big Bear fall activities below.

Enjoy the Colors of the Season

Take a leisurely stroll or ride along the easy Town Trail, or hike the popular, kid-friendly Castle Rock Trail through dense pine and oak trees, overlooking the lake, and past interesting rock formations. The Pine Knot Trail is a 7-mile hike with bright, colorful views along the way and amazing views of Big Bear Lake at the Aspen Glen Picnic Area.

Anywhere around Big Bear Lake, the San Bernardino Forest and nearby Bluff Lake Reserve will be brimming with color. Stop at the Big Bear Visitor’s Center before you start out to get a list of the best colorful spots that day. Or take a helicopter tour of the entire valley, the Mohave Desert, and more, and enjoy the colorful foliage from up high!

Enjoy the Season’s Festivals and Events

You don’t have to leave the Village for fall foliage or fun either. Enjoy fabulous fall foliage as you stroll through downtown, stopping to buy Big Bear souvenirs, or another pumpkin spice something. The Sunset Concert Series offers several free evening concerts at the Veteran’s Park bandstand throughout the year. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and a picnic!

During Oktoberfest, the entire town turns into a cute, Bavarian village. This family-friendly event does focus on beer (lots of beer) and delicious German food, but also has plenty of Bavarian music, contests, and kids’ games too.

Another great family-friendly Big Bear fall activity is a visit to the Pumpkin Patch at Bear Valley Farms, where they offer horseback riding lessons any time during the year, and in the fall you can enjoy the petting zoo, hayrides, haunted house, and hunt for the perfect pumpkin to carve. Or, take things up a notch or two, and go on the Pumpkin Smash Tour. Zipline through the air as you throw your pumpkin at targets, hopefully to win prizes.
