If you are like many of the other vacationers in Big Bear, you likely came from a far distance and probably don’t own a sailboat. Luckily, there are plenty of marinas in Big Bear that will happily rent you a sailboat! Holloway’s Marina, Big Bear Marina, or Pine Knot Marina are all great places to inquire about a sailboat rental. Rates vary on the marina and the size of the sailboat.

Take some time out of your Big Bear vacation to learn a new hobby! Big Bear Valley Recreation and Parks District offers sailing lessons that are open to the public! During these lessons, you will learn basic sailing terms and principles, sail as the crew, or take the helm as the captain, and get an introduction into racing. Participants must be 12 years or older to take the course and must know how to swim. Sunscreen is also highly recommended. Lessons cost $135 per person and take place over four days, offering a total of eight hours of sailing time.
If you are lucky enough to own your own sailboat, bring it along to Big Bear Lake! Simply purchase a day-use permit from one of the six marinas in Big Bear, or from one of the two boat launches along the lake. For boats longer than eight feet, a one-day permit is $25. Staying longer? There are also 2-4 day permits and seasonal permits available. If your purchase a one-day permit and decide to upgrade to a seasonal pass, the price of the one-day permit can be applied towards the price. For boats less than eight feet in length, the same rules of permits apply, but a one day permit is only $20.
