Aspen Glen Picnic Area

Aspen Glen Picnic Area is a popular spot among locals and repeat visitors to the Big Bear area. Located in the San Bernardino National Forest, this picnic area is open to the public all year around. During the winter, when the snow falls, it is the perfect place to head up and enjoy the snow. In the summer, it makes a great spot for a picnic or to take a hike. No matter when you visit Big Bear, make sure to stop and enjoy an afternoon in the Aspen Glen Picnic Area!

Aspen Glen Picnic Area Parking and Access

Travel west of the Big Bear Village and south of Highway 18, on Mill Creek Road, to find this best-kept secret of Big Bear! Just a few minutes’ drive from the main resort town, Aspen Glen Picnic Area can be a secluded retreat into the forest. In addition to the picnic area, visitors can also access the Pineknot Trailhead. To visit Aspen Glen, you must purchase an Adventure Pass, which costs $5 for the day, or $30 for the year. Be aware that Forest Rangers check for these passes in this area, so be sure to buy one ahead of time!

Amenities

This area of the San Bernardino National Forest is for day-use only, so don’t expect any overnight camping facilities. Instead, this area offers plenty of picnic tables, a community fire rings, and barbecues. There are also restrooms on site. Although you aren’t able to spend the night here, it is a great place for a picnic!

Activities

As the name suggests, the Aspen Glen Campgorund is the place in Big Bear for a family picnic! Bring something delicious to grill up on the barbecue, or simply pack some sandwiches for a more low-key affair. After you eat, be sure to check out the trailhead for some of the prettiest scenery you’ll find while in Big Bear! From the Aspen Glen Picnic Area, in March through November, you can access the Pine Knot Trail Head, which leads to a 6.1 mile out and back hike through the forest. This trail allows dogs, so bring the furry member of the family along! The trail is also used by bicyclists and equestrians, so be aware of others while you hike.

Aspen Glen Picnic Area in Big Bear offers stunning views of Big Bear Lake and is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon of outdoor fun!
