If you’ve finally managed to schedule a weekend getaway, and you’re a nature lover, why not plan a Big Bear weekend getaway? It’s a great spot for quick getaways as well as longer vacations. There are always plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy here, not to mention the beautiful scenery.
Spend Your Time Outdoors
It’s all about the outdoors here in Big Bear. Summer, winter, spring or fall, it doesn’t matter, enjoying the outdoors is our focus. Hike, bike, kayak, ski, snowboard—whatever you like to do, it’s here in Big Bear.
If there is snow on the ground, and you’re an avid skier or snowboarder, you’ll want to immediately head to Big Bear Mountain Resort or Snow Summit where you can enjoy downhill snowing, snowboarding and more. Each resort is slightly different, with Bear Mountain catering to a younger crowd with more serious snowboarders out on the slopes, while Snow Summit is more traditional and more family oriented. Book one of our ski-in/ski-out classic cabins, surrounded by trees and nestled at the base of Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, and you won’t have to waste time driving to and from your rental to the ski slopes. You’re already there.
Searching for a quieter Big Bear Lake weekend getaway in the snow? Head out into the backcountry for a day of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. No crowds, just the sounds of your skis shushing along the snow or the sound of your snowshoes crunching as you find your own trail through the backcountry.
No snow? No worries! Head to the lake for kayaking, swimming (during summer months once the water warms up), fishing and more. Most of our classic cabins feature views of Big Bear Lake from their cute front porches or decks. While you’re grilling those fresh caught trout, you’ll be enjoying the beautiful view.
Take a hike! Hike around Big Bear Lake or head to the San Bernardino National Forest. Two popular hikes to try are the Alpine Bike Path, (an easy, paved pathway along the north side of the lake), or Castle Rock Trail, a moderately challenging out-and-back hike with amazing lake views. A couple more trails to hike in the San Bernardino National Forest are Bear Lake Woodland Trail (easy), Butler Peak Trail (moderate), and Sugarloaf Mountain Trail (hard).
Bikers can find amazing scenery as they ride along the Alpine Bike Path or single-track excitement at Summit Bike Park at Big Bear Mountain Resort. Big Bear has over 100 miles of single-track, backcountry trails and rough service roads in the area waiting to be explored.
Other Adventures for Your Big Bear Lake Weekend Getaway
Speed through the air on a zipline! Action Tours’ zipline adventure tour has nine high-speed ziplines ready to sling you through the tree tops. Book a helicopter tour for a slightly more dignified but still exciting tour of the area and amazing views of Big Bear Lake, the Mojave Desert, and the surrounding mountains. You can also spend the afternoon touring and cruising the lake in a paddleboat or fighting with pirates on the pirate ship!
It’s Easy to Weekend in Big Bear
Whether you’ve brought the entire family for one last Big Bear Lake weekend getaway before school starts, or a few college buddies for one last ski weekend, or if it’s just going to be you and your best girl (or guy), we have a vacation rental to accommodate your entire group. Choose from a wide variety of sizes, locations and amenities, depending on your needs. If you plan on spending all your time on the slopes, you may not want or need a full kitchen and dining area. What you may want is a ski-in/ski-out rental with a hot tub to ease those tired muscles after a long day on the slopes. Maybe you’d like a lakefront vacation home with a big stone fireplace to snuggle up in front of, or with a large deck overlooking the lake where you can watch the sunset and then do some serious stargazing? No worries. We have all of those and more.
With only a Big Bear weekend to spend here, you’ll want to make the most of your time, and not have to worry about driving in winter weather or on rough roads. We offer vacation rentals close the lake and near ski trails, with lake views or nestled in the trees. You choose how rustic you want your cabin and location to be. Choose from cute, camp cabins with just the basics (and that wonderful lake view), rustic log cabins that are only rustic on the outside, and everything in between. Not sure which of our rentals is the closest to the things on your itinerary? Just give us a call, and we’ll help you select the best rental for your weekend getaway to Big Bear.
