Epicurean Journey to Big Bear

Heading to Big Bear, California often comes with a long list of outdoor activities to enjoy. The exciting scenery makes for a fantastic place to get out and enjoy skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. Between the lake fun and fantastic shopping stops, Big Bear keeps visitors engaged in exploration and discovery from the moment they arrive. That said, it’s also a destination where you don’t have to look far to find fantastic dining options! When you’re headed to Big Bear in pursuit of savory flavors, there are plenty of places vying for your attention. The following are a few of the best restaurants in Big Bear you’ll want to add to the list.

Amangela’s Sandwich and Bagel House

Amangela’s Sandwich and Bagel House is a hidden staple in The Village, and you could probably walk past Amangela’s a dozen times without noticing it. Missing this amazing breakfast spot would be a complete shame since it offers such amazing food. While it doesn’t look like much from the outside (or the inside), Amangela’s is home to one of the best breakfasts in Big Bear. the Breakfast Bagel sandwich. This three-egg behemoth topped with whatever your cold heart desires is mandatory before going out on the lake. The amount of stick to your bones goodness in this breakfast is perfect before hitting the slopes or hiking around the beautiful nature around Big Bear and will surely keep you full for hours. Make sure you grab a breakfast bagel and some coffee to really start out your day the right way.

Dank Donuts

Because of such a huge need to fuel yourself before a big day on the slopes, Big Bear restaurants just have breakfast figured out and Dank Donuts is no exception. Dank Donuts is one of the newer spots in Big Bear and they have brought the flavor to your breakfast choices. They’re making donuts daily, plus a small selection of breakfast burritos that are highly worth your time. The cake-style donuts are plenty doughy, but also still light enough that you can make it to the end of your hike. Our favorite is the Bear Claw, but really, go for whatever they say is hot. Adding a ham, cheese, and jalapeno croissant is also a good idea. No matter if you are looking for a sweet or savory start to your day, Dank Donuts has an option for you.

Peppercorn Grille

Situated at 553 Pine Knot Avenue, the Peppercorn Grille is a must when you’re in the mood for elegant dining that comes with plenty of savory options to choose from. Serving up a mix of traditional American favorites paired with mouthwatering Italian fare, guests will find it delightful to mix and match cuisine options whether they’re settled in the sophisticated dining room or seated on the outdoor patio. Service is friendly and the options are always palate-pleasing whether you go with pizza, lasagna, lobster ravioli, or chicken marsala. Peppercorn Grille is open daily between 11:00 am and 9:00 pm with extended hours until 10:00 pm on the weekends.

Fire Rock

This burger spot is an ideal place to go whether you spent the day on the slopes, the hiking trails, or in a hot tub. They specialize in two things: burgers and beers. The burgers are monstrosities in the best possible way like the Mama Said Knock You Out, with mozzarella cheese, mozzarella sticks, marinara sauce, and pesto, and the Sweating Bullets, which involves fried jalapenos, bacon, pepper jack, and hot sauce. Their tap list has some great San Bernardino County breweries, as well as non-local classics like Modern Times.

Himalayan Restaurant

When you’re craving cuisine influenced by far-off destinations, a stop at Himalayan Restaurant is sure to inspire the taste buds. Himalayan Restaurant is located at 672 Pine Knot Avenue and specializes in Nepalese and Indian dishes that combine bold flavors with friendly service! The setting at Himalayan Restaurant is decidedly casual, but the menu is anything but that. Pick and choose between tandoori lamb or a variety of vegetarian dishes that cater to dietary restrictions. Patio dining and take-away are both options at Himalayan Restaurant which is open between 11:00 am and 9:00 pm daily with extended hours until 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Grizzly Manor Café

Whether you’re headed out for on-the-lake fun or the surrounding trails are calling your name, fueling up for the fun is easier than ever with a stop at Grizzly Manor Café.
