Father’s Day in Big Bear

Every year on the third Saturday in June is the world-wide celebration of Father’s Day. This generally entails purchasing a home improvement store gift card or maybe a six pack of beer for good old dad, but we think you should upgrade your Father’s Day celebration. Instead of boring your Dad with a mundane gift, take him on a trip to Big Bear! Here are some of the best Big Bear lake activities to celebrate Father’s Day.

Take Him Out on the Lake

No matter what time of year you choose to visit Big Bear, there is always the option to head out on the lake. Around Father’s Day, the temperatures are amazing and make for perfect conditions to get out on the lake. Visitors can charter a boat and celebrate Father’s Day in California on the water. Popular Big Bear Lake activities include water skiing, rafting, wakeboarding, fishing, and even just relaxing in the sun.

One of the lesser-known options is renting a paddle boat or kayak. This is another great option for those looking for more of an adventurous activity rather than a leisurely boat trip. Although this requires a little more physical effort, this is an amazing way to see the lake. Finally, a lake trip can also include some great Big Bear fishing. Fishing in Big Bear is really a trip all on its own. Big Bear Lake is stocked with plenty of varieties of fish for your Father to try and catch. These fish include sunfish, crappie, catfish and blue gill. You and your Father are sure to enjoy this excellent time together. A lake trip is really fully customizable depending on what dad wants to do.

Barbecue Outdoors

If you are staying in an amazing vacation rental during your trip, you also have the option to cook your own meals in a fully equipped kitchen and often with a full barbeque setup. The classic Father’s Day California celebration generally includes some kind of barbecued meets with your dad wearing some punny saying on his shirt and/or apron. Well, an outdoor barbecue takes this idea to the next level with beautiful scenic views of the California mountains. We suggest checking out any one of the local markets to get fresh meats and seafood to grill up and enjoy. Being so close to the California coast makes fresh seafood even better!

Get Outdoors

The crisp mornings and beautiful afternoons present the perfect opportunity to get outdoors in beautiful Big Bear. Big Bear is known for its all-star selection of scenic hiking trails that provide for the perfect photo opportunities. One of the most popular trails is Pine Knot Trail to Grand View Point. This is a 6.9-mile trail that is rated moderate difficulty. This trail isn’t a flat walk, but still isn’t overly difficult either making it perfect for avid hikers and beginners alike. This trail has some of the most beautiful views of Big Bear Lake. If you are bringing your furry friend with you to Big Bear, this is also the perfect trail.

If you are looking for a slightly shorter trail than we suggest the Castle Rock Trail. This 2.6-mile trail can be completed in under two hours. There is some elevation gain on this trail, but it is easy enough and provides for some amazing views as well.

Check Out the Local Breweries

After hiking or boating all day, you may be looking for a place to get out of the sun and recharge with some refreshing local beer. Big Bear features several different local breweries that can scratch this itch. Big Bear Lake Brewing Company is a local favorite and offers a large menu of hearty options such as burgers and chicken wings to go along with their refreshing beers brewed in house. We suggest trying a flight of their amazing tap beers to get a full idea of the flavors they offer. Another amazing brewery option is the Big Bear Mountain Brewery. This is Big Bear’s original craft brewhouse and has been in operation in Big Bear for almost twenty years. The brewery has a distinct laid-back feel with warm lighting and wood interior that fits the rustic aroma of Big Bear. The Building was originally the Big Bear Masonic Lodge from 1925 to 1968 and still features the original bar on site with stained glass windows in the brewery room.
