Embark on your own Big Bear water sports wave running adventure during your time here with a few of our handy tips below!

Things to Know Before You Ride

Big Bear Lake, a great place for Big Bear water activities, is going to be the most ideal place in the area for you to ride a wave runner, as it is an enormous manmade lake. There are a number of wave runner purveyors located all around the lake, including Pine Knot Marina, Holloway’s Marina and RV Park, Big Bear Marina, and Big Bear Boating, with prices ranging from $75.00 for a half-hour rental to three-seater wave runners for $125 per hour. Prices normally include a riding lesson prior to being cleared to ride.

Be sure to call and ask ahead of time about their wave runner rentals for hourly, half-day, and full-day prices. Rental prices are often lower in the morning than during the afternoon when more people are likely to ride. Additionally, these vendors will often offer discounts for half- or full-day rentals, allowing you to save a little money while enjoying a wave runner for longer.

It’s easy to ignore your watch when engaged in Big Bear water sports but keep track of the time while you ride, as wave runners are not allowed to be operated on Big Bear Lake between a half-hour after sunset to a half-hour before sunrise, due to limited visibility for boaters on the lake. It’s also wise to make sure that you turn in your wave runner on-time so that you’re not charged for extra time.

When renting a wave runner, the rental provider should always provide pre-rental riding instructions, fully-functional life jackets, visible wave runner information on the equipment itself, and a clear understanding of the age requirement for renting a wave runner. Many rental companies require renters to be at least twenty-five years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
