Big Bear, California: Your Vacation Guide

You would think that when you live in a state, you would become numb to its beauty and charms, but we can tell you that is not the case in California, and is especially not so in the Big Bear area. Every morning, we wake to a deep-seated thankfulness that THIS is the place we call home, and the only thing that makes us happier than living here is being able to share our love of our charming community with you! There’s always something to do or see in Big Bear—what are you waiting for? Check out our Big Bear vacation guide!

What to Do Outside While You’re Here

While it might take less time to tell you what you can’t do when staying in the Big Bear area of California, we’re still going to give it a shot as to what activities and events are available for you while you’re here. We are located high in the San Bernardino Mountains, which means we do experience all four seasons, unlike other areas in Southern California, so plan accordingly.

Summer is a great time to take part in water activities or any outdoor sports. The high temperatures rarely get above 80, even during the hottest months of summer. Fall brings about the changing color of leaves, cooler days, and colder nights. This is a great time for hiking, biking, or even fishing. In the winter, spend your days skiing the slopes, sledding, or just playing in the snow, while you spend your nights cozying up to a roaring fire with the one you love. Spring is still a little too cold for water sports, but is a perfect time to hike or bike and enjoy the awakening of one of our favorite seasons!

Oktoberfest

The month of October brings a fun festival that takes place on weekends starting in September and ending with the last weekend in October—our favorite time of year. It’s Oktoberfest, and no one knows how to celebrate better than a bunch of people in lederhosen, dancing the polka, drinking ice cold beers and eating spicy brats—when they aren’t selling their wares on the Budenstrasse (avenue of booths), that is!

Where to Eat

We are about more than brats and wiener schnitzel; check out the wide variety of foods and nationalities throughout the Big Bear area where you can find everything from a basic hamburger (the Grizzly Manor Café) to tasty pizza (Noble Romans Pizza) to unbelievable delicious seafood (The Pines Lakefront) in addition to a host of other restaurants and food types—including Indian and Nepalese!
