3 Day Big Bear Getaway in Summer

Big Bear, California is well known as a premiere skiing destination in the fall and winter seasons, but there is much more to this amazing destination than snow and winter sports. Big Bear is one of the most beautiful summer destinations in the whole country. There are a lot of different activities to take part in during your summer trip, so we put together a three-day guide to an amazing Big Bear getaway vacation.

Day 1 – Getting to Know Big Bear

There are amazing activities all throughout Big Bear, but we suggest you complete the activities that let you see all of Big Bear from day one. There are two main activities we highly suggest checking out on your first day so that you are absorb all of the beauty in Big Bear. First, we suggest checking out a helicopter tour. This is an extremely unique way to see all of Big Bear from a bird’s eye view. Guests will board the helicopter at Big Bear Airport and immediately soar up into the clouds of the San Bernardino Mountains. There are various tours and routes available, but one of the best aspects of this tour is that can you dictate where the helicopter goes. When you reserve your tour, the amazing guides will customize a trip for you so that you can see every bit of the beauty of Big Bear. This is truly an amazing way to familiarize yourself with Big Bear and really get into your trip.

Another great first-day activity is enjoying the outdoor trails around Big Bear. When the snow melts in the spring and the foliage comes in, Big Bear is one of the most beautiful natural environments you will ever see. The ski runs and frozen mountains turn into sprawling greenery with amazing hiking trails. We suggest getting out and walking around on the first day of your Big Bear trip to see what Big Bear the area has to offer. Doing this on day one allows you to see some of the bigger areas around Big Bear and really narrow down what activities you want to do later in your trip. With a long day of travel behind you, a stay in our Big Bear mountain cabins is a great way to get acclimated to Big Bear, stretch your legs, and connect with nature.

Day 2 – Enjoy Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake is one of the best things to experience on your summer Big Bear getaway. The lake provides you with so many different activities and adventures that it could easily occupy your entire vacation. We suggest narrowing down several days into one jam-packed day of fun at the lake. Since it’s a bit cooler in the morning, we like to start off with some more outdoorsy lake adventures. Fishing in Big Bear Lake is a must-do experience. Fishing is allowed from a boat or on shore and is an easy way to take in the natural beauty of the lake. Families love to get together and teach their kids how to fish, especially since the lake is full of a diverse fish population. When fishing, you may catch rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, blue catfish, and carp.

Once it gets a little warmer in the afternoon, you have to get in the water. We suggest trying out any of the amazing water sports in the area to cool off in the afternoon. If you are an adrenaline seeker, try out a jet ski rental at any of the marina rental location. You can zip across the lake at high speeds and visit every corner of the lake. If you are looking for more of a laid-back atmosphere, you can take a water tour of the lake from on top of a stand-up paddleboard. Both options allow you to see the beautiful lake scenery at vastly different paces.

Day 3 – Family Fun Day on Your Big Bear Getaway

No matter if you are going for a romantic trip for two or a family vacation with the littles, there are plenty of fun activities that are perfect for that final day of your Big Bear trip. Don’t forget to check out our Big Bear short term rentals for easy access to the best attractions and activities. We like to start the day at the Big Bear Lake Alpine Slide, a long bobsled-style slide that sends guests flying down the side of the mountain. They have options for one or two riders per slide, and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience that shoots you through the beautiful scenery of Big Bear. This slide is located at the Magic Mountain Recreation Area that also has go karts, rock climbing wall, and a plethora of exciting activities. This is an amazing way to get some fun for all ages, and you are bound to have a great time no matter how old you are.
