Nestled along the south side of the town’s famous Big Bear Lake, Champion Lodgepole Pine Trail can be found by driving along Mill Creek Road for a little over four miles until you can turn right onto 2N11 and head one mile further to the trailhead.

When you arrive, you’ll find that the trail is a gentle Big Bear hike, winding its way parallel next to a pleasant stream. Champion Lodgepole Pine Trail consists of a total of one half of a mile in length, making it an extremely easy Big Bear hike for beginners and children. Pick up a brochure from the parking lot and take a self-guided tour of the numbered posts throughout the trail.

While hiking the trail, you will come to a fork where you can head left and follow signs for the Champion Lodgepole, which is an enormous pine tree that is among the world’s largest lodgepole pines.
