Plan a Big Bear Thanksgiving

Have you been looking for the perfect Thanksgiving vacation destination for you and your family this year? If so, Big Bear is one of the top vacation destinations in all of Southern California. The winter season is right around the corner and things are only getting more exciting here in Big Bear. Here is how to plan for a Big Bear Thanksgiving getaway:

Know Where to Eat

Cooking up a gigantic Thanksgiving feast is part of most family traditions, but when you are on vacation you may want to give the cooking a rest. Instead, kick your feet back and dine in at one of the incredible restaurants found locally in Big Bear. Many restaurants continue to remain open for holiday hours on Thanksgiving. These restaurants in the area include: The Pines Lakefront, Nottinghams Restaurant, Peppercorn Grille, The Bone Yard Bar & Grill, Dynasty, Royal Thai Café, Masala Craft, Captain’s Anchorage, and many more. Make sure to call ahead before heading over as most of these restaurants are open for limited hours on Thanksgiving. Of course, if you want to cook a traditional meal yourself, our Big Bear cabins feature full kitchens which make it easy to do so!

Big Bear Turkey Trot

If you are looking to keep a few pounds of that holiday food off your gut, make sure you participate in the Big Bear Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. This annual race is held on Thanksgiving Day and offers 3-, 6-, and 9-mile races. Participants are encouraged to wear their best Thanksgiving costumes with prizes awarded to the best dressed! The Big Bear Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot starts at Meadow Park and makes its way around the area.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

Another exciting tradition held in Big Bear each Thanksgiving holiday is the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. This annual event is on the Friday after Thanksgiving with a variety of entertainment activities taking place from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Big Bear Lake Village. Come see Santa make his first appearance of the year, hear the joyous songs of carolers, and see the huge Christmas tree light up just in time for the holiday season to get into full swing.
